After four months of negotiations, the Euclid Public Library administrative team and the staff union have agreed on a three-year contract through September 2027. This contract covers nearly 75 percent of the library’s employees and ensures wage increases, longevity pay, 12 weeks of paid parental leave, and increased life insurance.
“I am proud of our collaborative efforts that led us to a sustainable and fair contract,” EPL Director Kacie Armstrong said of the agreement with the Service Employees International Union District 1199, which represents EPL staff.
“The new agreement allows us to continue to provide quality services to Euclid residents and library patrons.”
Negotiations between the two parties began in late August, and the previous contract expired on September 30th. The discussions did not lead to any closures or disruptions in service.
“We appreciate the community’s patience as both sides worked towards a reasonable and sustainable agreement,” Armstrong said. “Although reaching an agreement took some time, we all shared the goal of reaching an agreement that would ultimately be beneficial to our library, employees, and community.”
The new agreement means the library and its employees can fully focus on the upcoming library renovation, which begins in February. Once it’s finished in 2026, the updated building will include flexible meeting spaces, a new Business Resource Center to support entrepreneurs, an expanded technology training space for digital literacy classes, an updated circulation desk, and a new Interactive Children’s Space to engage our community’s young learners.
“We are excited to renovate our library and enhance the experience of all visitors,” Armstrong said. “A new agreement between the library and union allows us to better collaborate on ensuring that our facility and services meet the current and future needs of our patrons.”
