Euclid Public Library is committed to creating a safe and welcoming environment for every member of the community. In 2017, The Board of Trustees took a significant step by adopting the Adult Chaperone Required Policy, which ensures that children visiting the library or attending library-sponsored programs are accompanied by a parent or guardian. To further enhance safety, the library hired a full-time Safety Manger, Ben Fagan, along with three part-time Safety Monitors: Jimmy Bandy, Tara Moore, and Greg Presley.
These team members focus on maintaining order, particularly during after-school hours, when the library experiences high traffic. The safety team brings a wealth of experience in working with students and law enforcement. To remain effective, they participate in ongoing training designed to strengthen their skills in de-escalation and actively engage with the community by visiting public, private, and parochial schools, building relationships with parents and students, and participating in library programming that promotes positive, healthy interactions.
Thanks to these proactive efforts, incidents and restrictions at the library have decreased by an impressive 76% since 2017. This progress underscores the library's dedication to fostering a secure environment.
Euclid Public Library remains committed to this mission through strong partnerships with local school districts, the City of Euclid, and organizations such as the Hope Task Force. Together, these collaborations ensure that the library continues to be a safe, supportive space where learning and community connections thrive.
